BOZEMAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
COMING MAY 2022
BIG SKY DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL
Our wide-open, picturesque landscapes invite a lifestyle of freedom here to enjoy the outdoors. It's no wonder why Montana has been able to attract folks from all over the globe; we offer world-class outdoor adventure in all 4 seasons; in clean, fresh mountain air and in crystal-clear waters.
And it is the water here that is making Montana famous for a completely different reason: it's the first ingredient to Award-Winning, Montana-made craft beer!
According to the Brewers Association 2019 statistics, Montana's craft beer industry is among the top in Breweries per Capita (11.5, ranks 3rd in the Nation), Economic Dollar Impact per Capita ($627.69, ranked 6th) and Gallons Brewed per Legal [21+] Adult (8.5, 8th). The boom in the craft beer industry in Montana is evident, as we've seen new breweries popping up in every major city and even the smallest populated rural areas of the state. And then, on March 12th, 2020, State-wide shutdown orders were given to slow the spread of Coronavirus19, effectively sending all of us home to worry and wonder what the future would hold.
In the days since Phased Re-opening here in Montana, success would be a term that hardly any small business, let a lone any brewery, would probably use to describe what business is like post-shutdown. Most are reporting income losses between 15% and 30%, and a few as much as 50% of their income this year is completely gone. Sadly, as of October 2020, 3 breweries have been forced to close their doors; it's rumored that a few more may go up for sale before December 2020.
"The Montana Brewery Passport" is an expository story about the craft beer industry in the Treasure State. You'll see every brewery in state, meet their brewers, see their place of business and witness the craft of producing Montana's best beer. You'll also get to meet the hop farmers and maltsters growing ingredients for them; and we'll hear first hand how everyone in the state's craft beer industry are facing the challenges brought on upon them by the Covid19 pandemic.
In order to discover what the right solutions are to help Montana's craft beer movement survive (and the infrastructure around it) we're interviewing every single brewery in the state (94 as of 10/12/20). Our goal for the film is that the viewer will feel entertained, educated, and ultimately inspired to jump into the car and drive out to visit breweries all across Big Sky Country.
Along our journey, we'll follow the progress of a brand new Montana brewery, who has begun construction. Will they be able to meet the challenges head on and make it to their Grand Opening Day?
